All parishioners who have received the sacrament of Confirmation are welcome to participate in the Lay Ministries. In addition,
children of all ages, with their parents, are encouraged to participate in the greeter and sacristan programs.
Please consider sharing your time and talent with the Parish. Feel free to call any of the lay ministry representatives
or the Parish office at (313) 884-0420 for more information.
Greeters Our Greeters participate in a very important ministry because
hospitality is a vital element in creating a sense of community for worship. A person who feels welcomed and valued is much
more likely to enter wholeheartedly into the celebration of the liturgy. Greeters are scheduled ahead of time for masses they
normally attend. Greeters need to arrive aboue 20 minutes before Mass begins. This is a perfect ministry for the whole family
to do together including children of all ages. Contact John Bissa at (313) 884 - 5554.
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (EME) EMEs distribute the Eucharist at our weekend
Masses. Serving in this Ministry provides an opportunity for personal contact in a very special way with so many members of
our parish family. EMEs are required to attend a training session followed by a commissioning ceremony. EMEs are not scheduled
in advance, but are asked to volunteer when they arrive at Mass. Contact Terry Varani at (313) 881-0143.

Music
The Our Lady Star of the Sea Music Ministry is dedicated to the enhancement of all liturgy. The cantors and choir
members work to bring meaningful interpretation to worship services under the guidance of the Music Minister. Vocal
and instrumental soloists, as well as small groups, are encouraged to share their gift of music with the congregation at times
throughout the year.
The Our Lady Star of the Sea Choir is made up of approximately forty adults and young teens who volunteer their time, talent
and treasure to enhance the Mass. Choir rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings; choir learns new music, polishes up old
favorites, and perfects larger pieces for major hoIidays. Choir rehearsals are relaxed and fun, and a great way for members
to unwind and meet new people near the end of a busy week. New members are always welcome -- all you need is a love of singing
and a desire to praise God with your voice!
For further information, please call Kemmer Weinhaus, our music minister, at 884-5554 (x-210).
Lectors Lectors are critical to our celebration of the Liturgy of
Word. New lectors attend a training session and are provided a Lector Workbook. Schedules are prepared two or three months
in advance and lectors serve about once a month. Lectors are responsible for thoughtful preparation of the readings in advance
of the liturgy. Contact Charles Pentis at (313) 881-0597.
Ushers Ushers greet and seat people, handle offertory collections, assist with
the Communion procession, distribute materials to parishioners, handle any emergencies that might arise, and prepare the church
for the next Mass. Ushers work in teams and serve at the Mass they normally attend. Ushers need to arrive 15 minutes before
Mass and remain about 10 minutes after Mass. Contact Mary Ann Fox at 884-0757.
Art & Environment Committee The Art & Environment Committee
is responsible for decorating the church for major feasts and seasons and for managing the ongoing care of the plants and
flowers. Volunteers are needed to assist with the planning and design as well as implementation of the plans throughout the
liturgical year. Contact Joan Stewart at (313) 886-2246.
Sacristans Sacristans set the table for the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass. This involves placement of chalices, purificators, hand towel, water cruet, dish, and Sacramentary, along with enough
Hosts and Wine to be consecrated. This ministry takes about 15 minutes prior to Mass. Contact Beverly Ballew at (313) 881-6793.
Rosary Altar Society The Rosary Altar Society is an organization of women in
the parish devoted to serving the Parish in honor of Our Lady. Rosary Altar Society members take responsibility for cleaning
the altar and sanctuary each week. RAS also provides flowers for Our Blessed Mother throughout the months of May and October,
plans the World Day of Prayer, participates in the Council of Catholic Women, and conducts monthly activity meetings. New
members of all ages are welcome to join. Contact Marianne Carlisle at (313) 882-7054.
Wedding Coordinator Wedding Coordinators rehearse with the bridal parties and coordinate
during the wedding. This ministry entails about three hours of your time. On the average you would do about 4 weddings per
year. Training is available at your convenience. For more information contact Cheri LaGrasso at 884-5554, ext. 205.
